Suzie Homemaker: Homemaking Confession

Source
As a full time homemaker I have a few confessions to make. Well, at least one main confession.........It's just easier if I do it! I can be done with chores lickety split! It takes time and more time to teach and explain and redo and teach again day in and day out.

Sometimes I have to bite my tongue and refrain from saying "Don't worry about it, I'll just do it!"

Sometimes when I see a mess I have to leave it as is and find the owner. This is so hard because I know I can whisk the mess away in no time flat!

-It's easier if I do the dishes, my socks wouldn't be soaked and the dishes won't need a thorough inspection.

-It's easier if I do the laundry. Less wrinkles, less wrinkles, and less wrinkles.

-It's easier if I do the mopping. Every inch of the floor will be kissed by a thoroughly rinsed mop.

-It's easier if I do the vacuuming. Every crumb will vanish, and dust will disappear.

-It's easier if I do the dusting. Every shelf will be reached and light fixture sparkling.

-It's easier if I put the dishes away. I can open the cupboard at anytime and know that I will not need a boo boo bunny afterwards.

-It's easier if I pick up the toys. Not only will this be done in a timely fashion, but every toy will be in it's proper place, and the only tears will be tears of joy!

-It's easier if I make the beds in the morning. Neat. Orderly. Pillows perfectly placed. Sigh.

-It's easier if I cook all the meals. Oh my is it easier!

However,

-I would be lonely standing at the sink by myself, washing dishes in my dry socks.

-There wouldn't be any sock wars if I folded all the laundry.

-I would miss seeing the wet little feet prints making their way across the strangely dry (in most areas) kitchen floor if I was mopping it.

-I would miss the shear joy on the kid's faces when they hunt down dust bunnies if I was doing the vacuuming.

-I would miss all of the really low unnoticeable places if I were dusting alone.

-I would miss playing 'dodge that cup', if I put the dishes away.

-I would miss hunting for the less than a centimeter long Lego piece if I put the toys away.

-I would miss the pillow fights and blanket forts, if I made the beds.

-I would miss the clouds of flour and the mountain of dishes if I cooked all the meals. Alright, well maybe not the dishes.

As you can see life would be much easier if I did all of the chores and homemaking in peace and quiet. I certainly would gain more free time, but I think I would lose something greater.

So, if you ever stop by for a visit, beware of the dust bunnies and the boo boo bunnies are in the freezer.

Happy Homemaking!

  1. This is very sweet. I often have to remind myself not to shoo my help away so I can get it done faster, but we are teachers first and cleaners second.

  2. So true. When I finally let my 5 year old help more in cooking dinner, I realized what a help he it. He can stir while I chop or pour while I wash, etc.

  5. This is so true! I was wisely reminded once that if I do it all how will my lovely daughter know how to do it for own household some day. If I constantly redo it or do it better then my sons will learn they are not needed. It is so important to remember! I enjoyed your post!
