Part of our winter project list included turning our coat closet, which is in the kitchen, into a pantry. Before we could turn the closet into the pantry we needed a place to put all of the coats, snow pants, boots, sneakers, etc. So, first we plunged into our finishing our entry/mudroom (MUDROOM FINISHED). We completed both of these projects in the same weekend, I am just getting to posting about the pantry now! :)
This is the closet. I have not decided yet what I would like to do with the doors. I was thinking possibly chalkboard paint? Leaving them as is? I don't know. I'm all ready placing that on my fall/winter list. Spring is rapidly approaching and I won't have time for that!
Lovely bright yellow paint on the inside.
Brackets for shelving.
Fresh, white trim with a creamy white wall color. Shelves painted white. Support in place.
I left the rod in place to hang herbs from once summer is here. They will be able to dry without taking up counter space and I can grab them when I need them.
I'm sure I will rearrange this a million times over before I decide how it will stay.
And there you have it! Closet to pantry. Make way for canning season!

Love your space and that it is IN the kitchen. I am in pantry mode myself right now, trying to figure out how to maximize our space. My husband is thinking I am crazy as I keep on changing everything and "consulting" him (when he probably really doesn't care but is a good sport about it)… Happy organizing!

Canning season sounds great! Thanks for sharing
ReplyDeletePretty cool! We have a repurposed shelving closet that Todd (my husband) rescued from the landfill, and we've used it for years for a pantry for our home-canned goods, but the shelves were looking so saggy. He just re-shelved it and it's so great to be able to store all of our canned goods again with no worry. You can never go wrong with more (and better) pantry space, right?
ReplyDeleteI found you through Simple Living Wednesdays, by the way. :)

It's so exciting to find space where you didn't have it before, isn't it! Your new pantry looks great.
ReplyDeleteI love your pantry! I asked my husband to include a pantry when we built our house a few years ago and it's been WONDERFUL! Congrats on your new food space. (visiting from The HomeAcre Hop)

Nice job! I love the idea of drying herbs on the hanging bar. A friend just taught me the hanging method for drying herbs last summer; it's SO MUCH easier than spreading them out on a table!
ReplyDeleteAbout the sliding doors: We had sliding doors on our bedroom closet and didn't like them because they kept getting stuck. We replaced them with cloth curtains. We made 3 panels of curtain so that we can easily reach between panels at the spots where we want to access the closet (my side and his side); you might want more panels for easy access to your pantry. Make sure to allow about 1 inch overlap of panels so that they cover the gaps. We really like the way the curtains look, and they are easier to use than doors when you have your hands full!
How lovely, you did a great job. When I lived in my country home, almost like a farm...I used to can and dry my herbs, after I picked them from my vegetable farm, though. I love sliding doors, they are soo practical. Hugs,

Makes a lot of sense to relocate the coats and use the pantry where it stands. Enjoy it!
ReplyDeleteWe need women designers to put more closet and storage into homes.
